거기 너 있었는거? Were you there?
성금요일, Good Friday
The continual thud of a jackhammer and occasional shouts from a crew of road workers echo off the mountain down to where three crude crosses jut out of a large pile of boulders. Today is Good Friday. Much of the world keeps going as always, but many people, I hope, stop to remember something that occurred centuries ago.
Today Yeongwol community stops our communal work, school, and usual schedule, to take in the message of Good Friday. At 9 a.m., we gathered in front of three crosses and a closed tomb. We sang and heard the story of Jesus’ last hours and death.
Nearby, fourteen small signs make a path to another small tomb. This one was made yesterday by two thirteen-year-old boys. It was their own inspiration and doing. Their families helped them set up fourteen “stations” for our community to walk by today. Join us as we appreciate the children’s work and remember how God’s beloved Son was willing to walk this path of suffering and die an unimaginably horrible death, for us.
We all—unlike His disciples at the time—can already feel a tingle of joy because we know that Christ’s death was not the end of the story. Wait with us now.

I love that the boys had this idea of their own accord. Have a joyous Easter!
